The Danish Association against FGM
The aim of the association is to eliminate female genital mutilation in Denmark as well as in the rest of the world. Female genital mutilation is a tradicional and cultural practise in 28 countries in Africa and the Arab Peninsula. It has spread to Europe and other parts of the world through migration. The Danish association against FGM is member of an International network of associations and projects fighting Female Genital Mutilation and we cooperate with a large number of organisations, ethnic associations, and the Danish health sector among others.
We believe information and education is the way to prevent and erradicate female genital mutilation (FGM).
FGM has severe medical consequences for mutilated girls, one is infertility later on in life. It is a paradocs that in some locations in Africa and the Arab States FGM is thought to bring fertility to women. This is one of several consequences of FGM.
